It was with yellow and red brick mountains as a backdrop that the Queen was introduced to Gamle Mursten’s version of the circular economy today.
“My staff and I have greatly appreciated showing H.M. Queen Margrethe how we work with a triple bottom line at Gamle Mursten. We’re not just focusing on the bottom line, but equally on creating jobs for the vulnerable and reducing the impact on our climate by harnessing the energy that’s already gone into firing those beautiful old bricks. We are proud to show how we, together with the Svenborg Municipality, contribute to the circular economy through projects like Nordre School, from which the bricks will be recycled and create local anchoring in a non-profit building,” said CEO Claus Juul Nielsen after the visit.
During her visit to Gamle Mursten, H.M. Queen Margrethe gained insight into the history and origin of bricks and was presented with bricks from the garrison buildings at Nyborg Castle, where the Queen is patron.
H. M. Queen Margrethe left Gamle Mursten with a substantial souvenir – a Svendborg brick from one of the original brickworks in the area, as a reminder that the brickworks history of South Funen lives on at Gamle Mursten.
