Sustainable multi-use building in Horsens Municipality
In Horsens Municipality, a sustainable multi-use building is to be built. The overarching theme for the use of the building will be the recycling of building materials, and the building will house, among other things, teaching and dialogue rooms on sustainability, a recycling shop and a recycling DIY store.
The multi-use building will generally be a place for dissemination and learning to and with the town’s citizens about sustainability, and it will be possible to exchange and use recycled materials, including in the building’s Repair Café.
The foresight of the project is not necessarily to facilitate increased knowledge and create dialogue about recycling and sustainability, but much more that the building will be constructed in recycled materials from its own recycling site supplemented with construction waste from local demolitions.
It reduces the amount of construction waste in the municipality, it preserves small local stories by reusing materials that would otherwise have disappeared.
It ensures circularity at demolition, at the recycling centre and at the building site, which is a very specific case to understand the possibility of circularity and sustainability for all.
It supports the development of the attitude and mindset we all need to work with, to move away from a disposible culture, to seeing where we need to draw our future resources, and learning to design for and with recycling.
Gamle Mursten Tech is with you all the way to Horsens; we test the bricks from the properties being demolished, clean the bricks and put them into storage, advise on the formulation of tender documents and deliver bricks to the building site.
