Gamle Mursten Tech offers to store old bricks for our customers. We can offer storage for individual customers, but we can also help establish a shared warehouse for several, so the pallets of bricks can be a common resource bank for municipalities, developers or others who can use the bricks for the next construction.

If it turns out that a municipality or developer has more old bricks than it needs for a specific building project, someone else can take over the bricks through the resource bank and get the building resources back into circulation more quickly.

In Denmark, the Agency for Culture and Palaces has historically administered this kind of storage for buildings worthy of preservation, but Gamle Mursten Tech takes the concept to a new level for the benefit of construction projects where sustainable building materials are desired.

For many generations, Denmark has had cityscapes with brick facades, supported by metaphors such as “the country is built of bricks”. However, bricks used since the 1960s and built with cement mortar that cannot be separated became waste the day they were laid.

It’s a shame, but fortunately there are plenty of old bricks that can be recycled around in buildings that have been bricked with lime mortar and therefore don’t need to become waste. In Denmark, according to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, 47.3 million bricks could be saved each year if the bricks were not degraded to base material but recycled at the highest possible level as bricks for new buildings.
